Suma Capital’s Energy Efficiency fund makes its third investment
Suma Capital, the Barcelona-based independent Private Equity firm, has invested in FINESSE. This latest investment was achieved via Suma Capital’s Energy Efficiency Fund, the first Spanish fund focused on investments related to energy efficiency. This fund counts with the support of institutional investors, including pension funds, and family offices. The Fund was also awarded the first ICO (Instituto de Crédito Oficial) funding, following a tender process.
FINESSE is the third investment financed by Suma Capital’s Energy Efficiency fund. It is acting as a platform, through which retrofits, that improve technology and reduce cost in heating and water supply, will be implemented in numerous condominiums. It will thereby enhance these buildings’ energy efficiency. This type of platform is highly scalable across dwellings in several Spanish Provinces.
Such projects yield multiple benefits and are a “win-win” situation for all stakeholders:
(i) Immediate cost savings for the end-client;
(ii) Medium-term remuneration of the Energy Efficiency Fund’s investors, as a result of sharing energy savings with final client;
(iii) Generally improved financial strength for the technical Partner, ESSE;
(iv) Long-term energy savings and curbing of CO2 consumption, beneficial to the general public.
The purpose of the Energy Efficiency Fund is, thanks to its investment in companies such as FINESSE, to ultimately reduce the energy consumption in buildings and industrial facilities. Expected returns for the investors are in the region of 12-15% per year. The cash distributions are to be made on a quarterly basis to Limited Partners. Beyond these economic returns, the fund also complies with its ESG undertakings.
