SCEEF II
Platform that focuses on building, operating and managing cogeneration and biomass plants associated with managing different sorts of waste. It currently has a portfolio of 7 plants with a joint capacity to generate 98.7 MW and over 140 employees. The thermal energy derived from the cogeneration process is used to dry and treat olive waste and pork purines, obtaining biomass to produce electricity from the olive waste and biogas and fertilisers from the purines. Zero Waste has two plants to manage olive waste, each with a cogeneration and a biomass plant, in Córdoba and Málaga; two purine-treatment cogeneration plants in Castilla-La Mancha, one biomass treatment and management centre in Córdoba and one cogeneration plant in the food sector in the Basque Country.
This investment promotes the circular economy, valorising waste from olive-oil production and pork purines that are a serious environmental issue to make them into biofertilisers and biomass. Thanks to this project, roughly 266.300 fewer tonnes CO
2 eq are put into the atmosphere each year and aquifers in areas with a high concentration of pig farming are protected from contamination.
