Suma Capital expands its international presence with a new office in Milan

Suma Capital, a leading sustainable and impact investment management firm, is expanding its international reach with the opening of a new office in Milan. This move consolidates Suma Capital’s position as a European investment platform, present in four major cities: Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, and now Milan, from where it will build stronger connections with the Italian investment and entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The Milan office will be led by Nicolò Balice, who brings extensive international experience across European infrastructure markets, combined with a deep focus on Italy. His appointment reinforces Suma Capital’s commitment to building a long-term presence in the country, identifying opportunities aligned with the firm’s values, and fostering strategic partnerships to maintain an active role in Europe’s energy transition.

Before joining Suma Capital, Nicolò Balice was part of the investment team at Ancala Partners, where he worked on sustainable infrastructure transactions across Europe in sectors such as e-mobility, biomass, logistics, district heating, and waste management. He previously worked at Citi in London, within the investment banking division covering infrastructure and business services. He holds a double master’s degree in Corporate Finance from Bayes Business School (former Cass Business School) in London and LUISS Guido Carli in Rome.

Suma Capital’s Milan office, located at Via Giuseppe Mengoni 4, 20121 Milano MI, in the heart of the city, will be fully integrated into the firm’s global operations. It will serve as the base for investments in key sectors for Italy such as biomethane, renewable energy, energy storage, sustainable mobility, circular economy, and energy efficiency. Recent government initiatives – including Fer-X, Macse, CER, Energy Release 2.0 and Italy’s new biomethane development program – represent major market opportunities, according to Balice.

With this opening, Suma Capital consolidates its role as a leading European player in sustainable project development and as a strategic partner to mid-market operators across the continent.

Suma Capital already has an active presence in Italy through portfolio companies such as CH4T, a platform focused on the construction and operation of biomethane plants. With an investment of over €100 million, Suma Capital has acquired and is transforming seven plants across northern Italy.

This investment reflects the type of projects driven by SC Infra, Suma Capital’s strategy dedicated to developing infrastructure for a decarbonised energy system, promoting clean energy and improving resource efficiency to mitigate climate change.

The firm strengthens its position in Italy as a strategic market for energy transition and sustainable investment in Europe.
