Suma Capital, among the selected funds for ‘Barcelona Accelera’ programme

Suma Capital has been chosen as one of the six venture capital funds to receive part of the €10 million earmarked for the ‘Barcelona Accelera’ programme to dynamise the city’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and promote post Covid-19 recovery.

Specifically, Suma Capital will be managing €2 million, which like the rest of the funds will go to investments channelled through companies in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area that are working in the strategic sectors established in the 2020-2030 economic agenda, such as the green and blue economies, the digital economy, creative industries, industry 4.0, health, sport and food.

The Barcelona City Council presented the ‘Barcelona Accelera’ programme last October, framed under the municipal measure ‘Barcelona, the digital and entrepreneurial capital’ to help promote the growth of innovative projects and start-ups, and accelerate economic recovery in the city.

Investment is expected to be multiplied five-fold, to €50 million, paid out gradually as investors close operations. The Barcelona City Council believes that, over the coming years, some 150 start-ups or innovative high-growth companies will benefit from this programme.

In Catalonia, there are more than 1,500 start-ups that create over 16,900 jobs. In the past 5 years, these companies in the Catalan ecosystem have attracted nearly €2.8 billion in private investment.

The whole Suma Capital team is very honoured and committed to helping promote these companies, which are a key driving force for innovation, attracting talent, foreign investment and positioning the city of Barcelona as a digital and entrepreneurial capital.
