Waste to Energy Advanced Solutions raises €10 million led by Suma Capital to accelerate the energy recovery of industrial waste

Waste to Energy Advanced Solutions (WtEnergy), a Spanish company specialising in the energy recovery of waste and biomass through advanced gasification technologies, has closed a €10 million financing round led by SC Net Zero Ventures, Suma Capital’s Climate Tech fund focused on scaling growth-stage companies, with participation from Shell Ventures and existing shareholder Cemex Ventures.

The investment will be allocated to the execution of WtEnergy’s current project pipeline, the technological and operational standardisation of its gasification plants, the strengthening of the organization and the development of new Syngas applications, as well as the company’s expansion across Europe.

European industry faces the dual challenge of reducing emissions in energy-intensive processes while efficiently managing growing volumes of industrial waste. Waste to Energy Advanced Solutions addresses this by developing and operating its own gasification technology, which transforms waste and biomass into Syngas. This circular process gas can replace fossil fuels in energy-intensive industrial processes and can also be processed to produce hydrogen, methanol and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

WtEnergy’s small and medium-sized modular plants (5–50 MW) are designed to be directly integrated into industrial facilities. This will help customers reduce their energy costs, lower CO₂ emissions and advance their circular economy objectives by recovering waste that would otherwise end up in landfills or incineration. The company currently focuses on key sectors for industrial decarbonisation such as cement, paper, rendering, chemicals and ceramics, where it already has pioneering projects in operation and in advanced stages of development, demonstrating the technical, economic and environmental viability of its solution.

With this transaction, WtEnergy further strengthens its position in the energy recovery of industrial waste and biomass in Spain and Europe, offering industry a competitive and replicable solution to reduce emissions, optimise energy costs and move towards a more sustainable production model.

Andrés Ponce, CEO of Waste to Energy Advanced Solutions, said: “This financing round represents a key milestone for Waste to Energy Advanced Solutions. It supports the accelerated deployment of our technology at an industrial scale, while helping our customers recover energy from their waste, turning it into a competitive source of alternative energy and new low-carbon molecules. Having partners such as Shell Ventures, Cemex Ventures and Suma Capital strengthens our vision and encourages us to take the next step in our growth.”

Natalia Ruiz, Partner at Suma Capital, stated: “We are very pleased to support Waste to Energy Advanced Solutions in this new phase of growth. Their technology, team and the industrial traction they have already demonstrated fit perfectly with our investment strategy in technological solutions with proven traction and strong scaling potential, enabling progress towards a more efficient, low-carbon industrial model.”

Cemex Ventures, for its part, reaffirms its commitment to the development and adoption of innovative technologies that help accelerate the decarbonisation of the cement sector, one of the most energy-intensive and emissions-heavy industries.

Waste to Energy Advanced Solutions develops and operates its own gasification technology, enabling the conversion of waste and biomass into Syngas

The company has pioneering projects in advanced stages of development that validate the technical, economic and environmental viability of its technology

The investment will be used to execute the current project pipeline, standardise the technology and operations of its gasification plants, develop new applications for Syngas and support the company’s expansion across Europe, among other objectives
