At a glance

Construction and operation of a 22 MW solar photovoltaic plant with single-axis trackers in Hinojosa del Valle (Badajoz), one of the areas of Spain with the greatest solar potential. The plant generates 43 GWh/year of renewable energy that is fed into the main electricity grid, reducing CO2 emissions and contributing to a more sustainable energy mix. The project was promoted through a Joint Venture with the developer, which has a local presence in the area.

Impact

What

The installation of solar photovoltaic power in Hinojosa, Badajoz, increases the production of renewable electricity in Spain, reduces dependence on fossil fuels and contributes to the decarbonisation of the electricity mix. The project also improves the efficiency of the value chain and fosters local employment.

Who

The main beneficiaries of the project are the local communities, who benefit from the local production of CO2-free electricity and increased local employment, both during the EPC and O&M phases. Society at large also benefits from reduced air pollution and reduced fossil fuel imports.

How much

This plant has a total installed capacity of 22 MW, which is capable of generating annually renewable electricity equivalent to 40,800 MWh, the annual electricity consumption of 12,000 households in Spain. It avoids 0.14 million tonnes of CO2eq emissions.

Core SDGs

Secondary SDGs

Risks

The viability of the project could be at risk due to possible changes in legislation regarding the integration of renewable electricity and tariffs for renewable producers, which could affect the revenue generation of the facility. Another factor that could affect its viability is the variable price within the established pricing schemes.
